W’ umubabar’ utey’ isoni

Ariko ndawukunda kuko Yesu yatanze

Ubugingo bwe ngo mb’ ukijijwe

Nkund’ uwo musaraba wa Yesu

Uvamw imbaraga zo kunesha

Nza¬hora ngundir’ umusaraba

Kugez’ ubwo nzambikwa rya kamba

(There was a hill where the cross stood)

(A cross of shame and suffering)

(But I love it because Jesus gave)

(His life that I may be saved)

(I love that cross of Jesus)

(From it comes power to overcome)

(I will always cling to the cross)

(Until I receive that crown)

Yes’ Umwana w’ Imana, yapfuy’ urwo baseka,

Aduhesh’ agakiza k’ Imana

(And on that cross we see the blood)

(Let us continue to sing about it)

(Jesus the Son of God, died in mockery,)

(Giving us God's salvation)

Nubg’ usuzugurwa na benshi

Kand’ Umwana w’ intama yahets’ umusaraba

Awujyana hamw’ i Gologota

(And that cross makes me love Jesus)

(Even though many despise it)

(And the Lamb of God carried the cross)

(Taking it to Golgotha)

Kand’ uwo musaraba nubwo wab’ uw’ isoni,

Nzakomeza kuwuhimbaza,

Kugez’ ubw’ Umukiza azanjya na mw ijuru

Muri bga bgami bge buhoraho

(And that cross, though it was shameful,)

(I will continue to praise it,)

(Until the Savior takes me to heaven)
