Impara yaguy’ umwuma
Nkukw ishak’ amazi,
Mana ni ko njya nkwifuza
Ng’ umpemburish’ ubuntu
(As the deer pants for the water)
(As it longs for streams so clear,)
(God, so do I long for You)
(To pour Your goodness over me)
Ni Wowe Man’ ihorabo,
Maz’ amar’ inyota;
Ni ryari nzakwirebera,
Mu maso, Mucunguzi ?
(You alone are God eternal,)
(You can quench my thirst;)
(When shall I behold Your face,)
(With my eyes, O my Redeemer?)
Mutima wanjy’ uhagaze
Ubabajwe n’ iki ?
Wiringir’ Itazabura
Gukiz’ uwihanganye
(Why are you downcast, O my soul?)
(What troubles you within?)
(Put your hope in the Unfailing One)
(To save all who endure)
Uwifuz’ Imana wese
Imuhaz’ ibyiza,
Nuko nizere, nishime,
Nshim’ imbabazi zayo
(Whoever desires God alone)
(Will receive good things from Him,)
(So trust, and be joyful,)
(Sing praises for His mercy)
