Umwam’ agaby’ ingabo ze

Kurwana n’ ibyaha

Umugaba n’ Umwana we:

Intwari ye ni nde?

(The Lord calls His soldiers)

(To fight against sin)

(Sharing with His Son:)

(Who are His heroes?)

Wikorer’ umusaraba,

Ugendane na We

Mufatany’ imibabaro,

Nuk’ ub’ intwari ye !

(Take up your cross,)

(Walk with Him)

(Share in suffering,)

(Then be His hero!)

Sitefano yakubiswe

Kubw’ uwo Mwami we,

Yasabirag’ abanzi be,

Ubgo bamwicaga

(Stephen was struck down)

(For his Lord,)

(He prayed for his enemies,)

(Though they were killing him)

Ubwo yar’ agihagaze,

Yabay’ intwari ye;

Bamwicishij’ amabuye,

Areba mw ijuru

(While he was standing,)

(He was His hero;)

(They stoned him to death,)

(He looked to heaven)

Batwikwaga mu muriro,

Dukurikiz’ urugero

Rwiza baduhaye !

(They were burned in fire,)

(And they were tortured)

(Let's follow the example)

(Beautiful they gave us!)

Bajugunyirwag’ intare,

Zikabatanyura

Babicishaga n’ inkota:

N’ intwari za Yesu

(They were thrown to lions,)

(Which tore them apart)

(They died by the sword:)

(These were Jesus' heroes)

Non’ izo ntwari za Yesu

Zageze mw ijuru !

Dore zigos’ intebe ye;

Ziramusingiza !

(Now these heroes of Jesus)

(Have reached heaven!)

(See they stand before His throne;)

(They are praising Him!)

Zaciye mu mibabaro,

Zizamukirayo

Mwam’ udufashe natwe ngo

Duc’ aho baciye

(They passed through suffering,)

(They overcame it)

(Lord help us also that)

(We go where they went)
