Abungeri barindaga(The shepherds were watching)
Intama n’ ijoro,(Their sheep by night,)
Marayik’ abiyereka(An angel appeared to them)
Mu cyubahiro cye(In glorious light)
Babony’ icyo cyubahiro,(They saw that glory bright,)
Baterwa n’ ubgoba,(And were struck with fear,)
Marayik’ arababgira(The angel spoke to them)
Ati: Muhumure !(Saying: Be of good cheer!)
Nimwumv’ ubu, mbazaniye(Hear now, I bring to you)
Inkuru y’byiza:(News of great joy:)
Mu rurembo rwa Dawidi,(In the lineage of David,)
Havuts’ Umukiza(A Savior is born)
Ndabah’ iki kimenyetso;(I give you this sign;)
Nuko, murabona:(And so, you will see:)
Baryamish’ uruhinja(A baby wrapped in cloth)
Mu muvure w’ inka(Laid in a manger)
Amaze kubivug’ atyo,(When he had spoken thus,)
Habonek’ umutwe(There appeared a host)
w’abamarayika benshi,(Of many holy angels,)
Bahimbaza bati:(Praising God and saying:)
Nukw’ icyubahiro kibe(Glory be given)
Ku Mana mw’ ijuru,(To God in heaven,)
Kand’ ab’ ikunda bo mw’ isi(And to those He loves on earth)
