Abungeri barindaga

Intama n’ ijoro,

Marayik’ abiyereka

Mu cyubahiro cye

(The shepherds were watching)

(Their sheep by night,)

(An angel appeared to them)

(In glorious light)

2.

Babony’ icyo cyubahiro,

Baterwa n’ ubgoba,

Marayik’ arababgira

Ati: Muhumure !

(They saw that glory bright,)

(And were struck with fear,)

(The angel spoke to them)

(Saying: Be of good cheer!)

Nimwumv’ ubu, mbazaniye

Inkuru y’byiza:

Mu rurembo rwa Dawidi,

Havuts’ Umukiza

(Hear now, I bring to you)

(News of great joy:)

(In the lineage of David,)

(A Savior is born)

Ndabah’ iki kimenyetso;

Nuko, murabona:

Baryamish’ uruhinja

Mu muvure w’ inka

(I give you this sign;)

(And so, you will see:)

(A baby wrapped in cloth)

(Laid in a manger)

Amaze kubivug’ atyo,

Habonek’ umutwe

w’abamarayika benshi,

Bahimbaza bati:

(When he had spoken thus,)

(There appeared a host)

(Of many holy angels,)

(Praising God and saying:)

Nukw’ icyubahiro kibe

Ku Mana mw’ ijuru,

Kand’ ab’ ikunda bo mw’ isi

Bahabg’ amahoro

(Glory be given)

(To God in heaven,)

(And to those He loves on earth)

(Peace be granted)
