Wambay’ibitabutse

Birihw amaraso ye,

Mutubwir’uw’ ari we

Dor’ukunt’ ananiwe

N’igiti yikoreye !

Ko yaboshywe nabi se,

Ninde kand’aziz’iki ?

(Who is that suffering one,)

(Wearing a crown of thorns)

(Dripping with His blood,)

(Tell us who He is)

(See how His head is bowed)

(With the tree He carries!)

(That He was bound so cruelly,)

(Who is He and what did He do?)

Uwo munt’ ubay’atyo

Niwe Nyir’ ubugingo

Ibicumuro byawe

Ni byo bamujijije

We kujarajar’utyo:

Sang’Uwagupfiriye;

Pfukam’i Gologota,

Wihan’ ubabarirwe

(That suffering man)

(Is the Giver of life)

(Your thorns)

(Are what they pierced Him with)

(He scorned like that:)

(See the One who died for you;)

(Kneel at Golgotha,)

(Cry out to be forgiven)

Soma ’icyo kirego, ngo

Yesu w’ i Nazareti

(See the pierced hands)

(Are the nails that bound them,)

(And the throne of His kingdom)

(Was the Cross)

(Who is this King treated thus,)

(How shall I know Him?)
