Iyo nibgiye mu mutima(When I survey in my heart)

Igit’ Umwami yatangiyeho,(The tree on which the Lord hung,)

Nzinukw’ ibyo niratanaga;(I am amazed at what I valued;)

Mbireba nk’ ibitariho rwose(I count it as nothing at all)

Sinkirat’ikindi, Mukiza,(I boast in nothing else, Savior,)

Keretse ko wankunz’ ukamfira;(Except that You loved me and died for me;)

Ndeke n’ ibyo nishimiraga,(I abandon what I took pride in,)

Ngushimir’ uko wanyitangiye(I praise how You gave Yourself for me)

Ishavu n’ ibambe bivanze(Thorns and nails mingled)

Byavuye mu mutima wa Yesu;(Came from the heart of Jesus;)

Mbese, har’ undi Mwami nka we(Indeed, is there another King like Him)

Wateg’ ikamba nk’ iryo ry’ amahwa ?(Who wears a crown like that of thorns?)

Mwam’ iyo mba mfit’ isi yose,(Lord, if I had the whole world,)

Nkemera kuyitanga h’ ubwishyu,(I would agree to give it as payment,)

Nta bgo yarangiza na hato(Yet it would not be enough at all)

Kwishyur’ umwenda wanjy’ ukomeye(To pay my great debt)

Urwo rukundo wankunz’ utyo(That love with which You loved me so)

Rukwiriye kuntangisha byose,(Deserves to cost me everything,)
