Gushimisha · 5 verses
Iyo nibgiye mu mutima
Igit’ Umwami yatangiyeho,
Nzinukw’ ibyo niratanaga;
Mbireba nk’ ibitariho rwose
(When I survey in my heart)
(The tree on which the Lord hung,)
(I am amazed at what I valued;)
(I count it as nothing at all)
Sinkirat’ikindi, Mukiza,
Keretse ko wankunz’ ukamfira;
Ndeke n’ ibyo nishimiraga,
Ngushimir’ uko wanyitangiye
(I boast in nothing else, Savior,)
(Except that You loved me and died for me;)
(I abandon what I took pride in,)
(I praise how You gave Yourself for me)
Ishavu n’ ibambe bivanze
Byavuye mu mutima wa Yesu;
Mbese, har’ undi Mwami nka we
Wateg’ ikamba nk’ iryo ry’ amahwa ?
(Thorns and nails mingled)
(Came from the heart of Jesus;)
(Indeed, is there another King like Him)
(Who wears a crown like that of thorns?)
Mwam’ iyo mba mfit’ isi yose,
Nkemera kuyitanga h’ ubwishyu,
Nta bgo yarangiza na hato
Kwishyur’ umwenda wanjy’ ukomeye
(Lord, if I had the whole world,)
(I would agree to give it as payment,)
(Yet it would not be enough at all)
(To pay my great debt)
Urwo rukundo wankunz’ utyo
Rukwiriye kuntangisha byose,
Ibyanjye n’ umutima wanjye,
Bikab’ ibyaw’ ukabitegeka
(That love with which You loved me so)
(Deserves to cost me everything,)
(What is mine and my heart,)
(May they be Yours and You command them)
