Jye mpisemo Yesu; murutish’ iyi si yose;

Andutir’ amafaranga cyangw’ izahabu

Jye nkund’ Uwabambwe, murutisha n’ amatungo

Andutira n’ amasambu n’ amazu meza

Uwanyimika, nkab’ Umwami w’ ishyanga rinini rite,

Nd’imbata y’ icyaha cyose, sinabikunda

Ahubgo niragije Yes’ Umukunzi wanjye:

Sinshyita ku biri mw Isi: Yes’ aranyuze !

(I choose Jesus; more than all this world;)

(He is worth more than money or gold)

(I love the Crucified One, more than livestock)

(He is worth more than gardens and fine houses)

(Who can entice me, though I were king of a great nation,)

(I am a slave to sin no more, I do not love it)

(Because I am going to Jesus my Beloved:)

(I care not for what is in the world: Jesus satisfies me!)

Jye mpisemo Yes’ Umucunguzi wanjy’ unkunda;

Andutira no gushimwa n’ ab’ isi bose

Umv’ icyo nifuza: sinshaka kumenyekana;

Njye nyobok’ Umwami Yesu iminsi yose

(I choose Jesus the Savior who loves me;)

(He is worth more than being praised by all people)

(Hear what I desire: I do not seek to be known;)

(I obey Lord Jesus all the days)

Andyohera cyane: nta buki buryoha nka We;

Ni mwiza; n’ uw’ igikundiro cyinshi cyane;

Ahumura neza kurush’ ibirabyo byose:

Nabur’ iki se, mmufite, kw andangirije?

(He attracts me greatly: there is no sweetness like Him;)

(He is beautiful; He is the one of much love;)

(He comforts better than all medicine:)

(What else do I need, having Him, to be anxious?)
